The scenic village of Lofou is in the district of the wine villages, between Limassol and Paphos. It is built amphitheatrically on the hills (Hill means Lofos in Greek, hence the name) and at an altitude of about 800 metres.
It is believed that the village was inhabited ever since the Bronze age. The first houses were actually farms scattered around the valley. The shepherds gradually built huts which they called “stiathkia’ and at a later stage they built houses using stones, with roofs made of wood and mud or clay. It is not by chance that Lofou is listed by UNESCO as an architecturally important village.
